If you’ve built your experience in security, investigations, or risk environments, you may already meet the requirements for a nationally recognised qualification.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assesses your real-world expertise, and converts it into a formal certification – without unnecessary study.
You know how to do the job. You’ve already been doing it for years.
On paper though, it’s very difficult to prove it.
This is one of the biggest frustrations facing professionals in security, investigations, and risk management today:
Same work. Same responsibility. Different outcome. It’s easy to see why this feels unfair.
The issue isn’t your capability. It’s simply recognition.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) gives you a faster, smarter pathway to the qualification you need – all based on what you’ve already done and learnt.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates your existing skills, knowledge, and experience against nationally recognised qualifications.
Instead of sitting through modules on topics you’ve already been handling for years, your experience is assessed directly. If you can demonstrate competency, you can be signed off on relevant units – reducing, or even removing, the need for study and assessment.
Westbourne College offers flexible pathways to this goal, including full RPL, partial RPL with gap training, or full study if and when required.
This is not a typical ‘one-size-fits-all’ structure. It’s a pathway that reflects your actual experience and expertise.
The process is structured, quick, and clear.
Most importantly, it’s designed to assess what you already know – not what you supposedly need to relearn.
Start off with a free, no-obligation skills appraisal, to determine your eligibility for RPL.
Provide documentation that demonstrates your experience. This may include work history, references, reports, or other relevant materials.
Your evidence is assessed against the requirements of the qualification, by industry-aligned professionals
You may receive:
Full RPL
Partial RPL
A recommendation
Every outcome is evidence-based, and aligned with industry standards, ensuring your qualification is both accurate and fully compliant.
Westbourne College offers RPL pathways across key security and risk qualifications:

Designed for experienced investigators and professionals working in investigative roles, where strong evidence of competency can be demonstrated

Suitable for experienced security personnel, supervisors, and professionals moving into specialist risk analysis roles

A higher-level qualification for experienced professionals, seeking to formalise and advance their expertise in security risk management

Here you complete the Diploma, and – if eligible – receive RPL towards the Certificate IV, giving you a more efficient route to both qualifications.
Each of these qualifications is nationally recognised, aligned with industry requirements, and assessed against strict competency standards.
Westbourne College is an Indigenous-owned and managed vocational education and training provider, committed to delivering high-quality, industry-aligned training.
Our approach focuses on:
Everything is built around how work is actually performed in practice – ensuring your qualification reflects real capability, not just theoretical knowledge.

You’ve already invested the time, built the skills, and handled the work.
RPL doesn’t ask you to prove that all over again.
Instead of sitting through months of study, covering topics you’ve been managing for years, RPL validates what you’ve already done.
It gives you credit for the experience you’ve earned, not just the official boxes you’ve ticked.
The results:
For many professionals, RPL is the difference between staying stuck in place, and finally progressing. It’s a pathway that respects your existing experience, while also meeting nationally-recognised standards.
If you’ve been working in security, investigations, or risk management, there’s a strong chance you already meet part – or all – of the requirements for a formal qualification.
The next step is simply to find out.
A free skills appraisal will give you a clear understanding of:
Whether you’re eligible for RPL
Which qualification aligns with your experience
What your pathway to completion looks like
There’s absolutely no obligation.
We’ll simply provide a free, straightforward assessment of where you stand, and recommend the best course of action to help progress your career.
