RPL Evidence Guide

To complete an RPL assessment, students need to provide evidence that clearly shows they already have the skills and knowledge required for the qualification.

Evidence may include:

  • Current resume
  • Position descriptions
  • Statements of service
  • Employer or referee references
  • Qualifications, licences and statements of attainment
  • Internal training records and professional development records
  • Reports, case notes, risk assessments or incident reports
  • Policies, procedures, audits, plans, registers and checklists
  • Emails or workplace documents showing duties personally undertaken
  • Third-party verification from supervisors, managers, employers or clients
  • Assessor interviews, competency conversations or targeted questioning where required

Evidence Guidelines:

  • Evidence should be authentic and relate to the applicant’s own work.
  • Evidence should be relevant to the qualification being applied for.
  • Evidence should be current enough to demonstrate present competence.
  • Evidence should be sufficient for the assessor to make a sound judgement.
  • Sensitive workplace documents may be de-identified or redacted where appropriate.

RPL Process

Step 1

Initial Enquiry

The student contacts Westbourne College and advises which qualification they are interested in, along with brief details about their background and experience.

Step 2

Initial Review

Westbourne reviews the enquiry and discusses whether RPL is likely to be a suitable pathway.

Step 3

Enrolment and Initial Payment

If the applicant wishes to proceed, an enrolment form is issued and the initial non-refundable RPL fee is invoiced.

Step 4

Evidence Submission

The student submits supporting evidence for review, including workplace documents, qualifications and third-party verification where applicable.

Step 5

Assessor Review and Interview

The assessor maps the evidence against the qualification requirements and may request additional evidence, ask questions or conduct an interview.

Step 6

Gap Assessment

Where evidence only partially meets requirements, Westbourne may recommend partial RPL, additional evidence or gap training.

Step 7

Final Payment and Issuance

Where the student is approved, the remaining fee is paid and the qualification is issued in accordance with Westbourne processes.
